with Brenda Stevens
Saturday, April 25
12:30pm-4:30pm
$65
You don’t need drawing or painting skills to experience the exciting medium of watercolor. I’ve created this class specifically for beginners, but more advanced students enjoy it too. It can serve as the gateway to watercolor or provide a refresher course in the medium. I will walk you, step by step, through the entire painting process and in just four hours you will have a small painting to take home. You will learn to mix the three primary colors (red, yellow, blue) to make all the colors you need for each painting. You will also learn basic watercolor techniques like wet in wet, wet on dry, mingling, and more. With just a few techniques you can paint skies and clouds, trees, reflections in water, the texture of an old barn, and smooth flower petals. Every time you choose a different subject in the Crash Course series, you will learn new techniques and practice mixing colors.

9:00am-4:00pm

In this workshop, I will share with you my tips and tricks on painting believable water. No matter if it’s in a vase, a marsh, a river or especially a waterfall, water has its own unique set of characteristics to keep in mind. Through years of observation, and trial and error, I have developed my approach to simplify the process and achieve realistic and natural looking effects in water.
We can work in whatever area of water you are struggling most, whether it be still life or landscape. I will supply limited references, but I also encourage you to bring your own so we can work through any problems you may be having.  This three-day workshop includes a combination of talks, demos and plenty of one-on-one instruction.
A specific supply list will be provided for this class.

Amanda Lovett's oil painting using a limited color palette of a barn2 Day Session: Simplifying Color with a Limited Palette
March 14 and 15
9:00am-4:00pm

Color theory can be as simple as one, two, three. You will never have to overthink color again.  Using a three-color palette, we will spend two days working through exercises that will help strengthen your understanding of color mixing, color schemes, creating mood and much more.  We will explore how to choose which three colors best suit your needs and I will share some of my own study habits that have had the most profound effect on my work.
The development of this class was rooted in my background working with John Pototschnik to produce his book “Limited Palette, Unlimited Color,” then taken to the next level. I will be providing talks, demos, exercises, hands-on painting and plenty of one-on-one instruction.
A specific supply list will be provided for this class.
